One of my clients was used to living in a very busy home with 4 children. They put the home office near the kitchen. This arrangement worked when the kids were small. Now the parents and young adults wanted to entertain more.

They were lucky, a small room in the back of the house opened up so they could create a separate office/den space. They had the furniture to totally change the space.

Now when you walk into their home the first thing you see is a beautiful sitting area in front of her china cabinet. Not a busy computer desk with everyone's paperwork on it.
